This
summer Westchester County will host the prestigious
Empire State Games 2007 – the biggest sporting event
second only to the Olympics.
From
July 25 through the 29, some of the finest amateur
athletes in the state will compete in 31 different
events at 12 venues throughout the county. The
excitement begins on a Wednesday evening with an
opening ceremony for the athletes and their families
at Kensico Dam Plaza, followed by four days of
exciting competition.
We
expect 6,000 amateur athletes and 15,000 of their
families, friends and coaches to visit our region –
making a very positive impact on the local economy
with added business for restaurants, hotels, retail
stores and entertainment and recreation venues.
Now in
its 30th year, the Empire State Games is
a program of New York State’s Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation. This is the
first time we have had the games here in
Westchester, and we expect they will be a great
success.
But we
need your help! More than 1,000 volunteers, from
scorekeepers to medical personnel, are needed. And,
while some funding for the games will come from the
State, we still need some additional private
fundraising support here in Westchester.
As you
browse this informative website, you’ll see a
variety of ways for you, your business or both to
help.
Thanks
for visiting the website and visit again as we will
be continually updating information on the Empire
State Games.
Sincerely,
Andy J. Spano
