EMPIRE STATE GAMES IN WESTCHESTER “GO GREEN”
Friends teams with NativeEnergy and Clear Air-Cool Planet to offset emissions

How much CO2 is the Empire State Games expected to generate from its fleet of buses and venue usage for its athletic competitions July 25 – 29? If you guessed 109.02 short tons you’d be correct. And, to offset these emissions and reduce the negative effects of CO2 from the games, the Friends of Westchester County Parks has stepped in on behalf of Westchester County and the Empire State Games to contribute to a renewable-energy project.

Friends of Parks and Westchester County are taking responsibility for some of the impact the events will have on the environment by offsetting it with new renewable energy sources through a contract with NativeEnergy LLC to help fund the Schrack Family Farm Methane Project in Loganton, PA. This will ultimately improve the air quality in the Northeast.

For less than $1,000, Friends will help facilitate the Schrack Family Farm’s cutting-edge methane-to-energy project. By turning methane, a natural byproduct of the farm’s operation, into clean energy, the farm will be able to prevent 109 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

Clean Air-Cool Planet, an independent, non-profit environmental organization will “retire” the CO2 offsets, meaning that the credits purchased by the Friends will not be transferred or used for any other purpose.

Native American majority-owned, NativeEnergy is a national marketer of carbon offsets and renewable energy credits (RECs), offering individuals and organizations a means to compensate for their global warming pollution, or to effectively power their homes and businesses with renewable energy. NativeEnergy’s unique business process brings upfront payment to renewable projects for their estimated future REC or offset output, enabling its customers to help directly finance the construction of new wind farms and other renewable energy projects. Information on the company is available online at www.nativeenergy.com.

The Friends will receive a certificate that documents the purchase and donation of the CO2 offsets to Clean Air-Cool Planet for retirement.
